Captured Moments of 2010 for the Holidays

Every year we try to capture those pictures that were some of the best of the year. This year we have selected four pictures. The first photo is of us kayaking in Jamaica in January. The second is bicycling with a surrey on top in Coronado, California in July. (Shown with us are our daughter, Melissa, son-in-law Keith, and grandsons Kellen, 8 yrs,and Cairn, 2.5 years.) The third is of Georgia and Melissa horse back riding in the Roche Family vineyards in Sonoma, California in September. The final picture is taken of us at a windmill near Amsterdam, Netherlands in June.

December Flowering House Plants

Here it is in December on a cloudy, rainy day, but our house plants seem to love it. Both Georgia and I love to garden and as a result have numerous house plants. Here are some pictures of some of them blooming for Christmas. Shown are a flowering corn stock, Christmas Cactus, Moon cactus, Peace Lily, and an Anthuriun.

Washington, DC, Annapolis, Fredericksburg, & Pittsburgh

On October 13th we left for a trip to the East Coast. Hugh had never seen the White House or toured the National Mall, so that was our first stop. We then spent two days in Annapolis with Hugh's USNA roommate. It was then on the Fredericksburgh, Virginia for a reunion of Hugh's company mates and a tour of the civil war battlefield. When we left Fredericksburg, we went to Monticello, Thomas Jefferson's home. Our final stop was in Pittsburgh to visit Hugh's mother.

Narcissa Schall is 99

This September 17th, Mom celebrated her 99th birthday. Brothers Dave and Jim were with her and my older brother Roy and I both sent flowers. One more year and she gets a letter from the president.

Grandson Cairn's First Swin Lessons

Hugh went to Southern California and flew back with our grandson, Cairn for his first "Camp GG and Papa Hugh". During his stay we had him signed up for his first swim lessons. He has always tried to imitate his big brother, Kellen, so he was a natural at swimming. After three lessons, he was swimming for about 12 feet. Quite an accomplishment for a 2 1/2 year old.

Birthday Dinner in Claremont

We were in Southern California on August 25th and celebrated Georgia's birthday with a dinner at Harvard Square in Clarement. We were joined by Melissa, Keith, Kellen and Georgia's sister Liz. It was an adult dinner so grandson Cairn was at home with a baby sitter. It was 112 in Rancho Cucamonga that day so we ate outside on the restaurant patio after it cooled down a bit.

Indian Market in Santa Fe, New Mexico

We visited with one of Hugh's Naval Academy classmates, Mike Spear and his wife Bonnie, in Sant Fe August 19-23 for the annual Indian Market. Indian market brings Native Americans from all over the country to Sante Fe to show and sell their crafts. After an enjoyable morning at the market, we went to see one of the local foundaries cast a bronze statue. Besides the Market and the casting, we enjoyed several hikes. One of the hikes had Hugh and Mike climb up Sun Mountain.

Emily Schall Visits

Hugh's niece, Emily, and her friend Emily Sowell visited us in August for a vacation. The two Emilys did about everything you could in a week including doing all of San Francisco' typical sights, visiting the Sonoma wine country, visiting the de Young museum, visiting the California Academy of Science, going to Point Reys National Seashore, and visiting the tidal pools on the California coast south of San Francisco. It was fun having both of them here.
