October Fund Raising

This October, through Georgia's efforts, we led and participated in two fund raising walks.  The first walk was on October 15th in Petaluma, California.  It was a walk in behalf of our friend Anne, who has Alzheimer's.  The walk was to raise funds for Alzheimer's research.  We raised over $2,800.

The second walk was October 22nd for Club 21 in Pasadena, California.  Club 21 provides services for children with Downs Syndrome.  Our youngest grandson, Lain , has Downs Syndrome.  We raised over $1,200 for the organization as members of the "Lain Train".  Below are some pictures of both events:

Landmark Winery, Kenwood, Ca. Lobster Feed

On September 30th, Georgia and I attended Landmark Winery's first annual lobster feed at their Kenwood, Ca winery.  We were joined by some neighbors, Beverly and Ted Brown for a feast of steamed lobster, shrimp, roasted garlic, boiled potatoes, artichokes, and sausage.  The evening was beautiful and the dinner was served with Landmark's wonderful pinot noir and chardonnay wines.

Santa Fe in September

In the middle of September, we flew to Santa Fe to stay with a USNA classmate of mine, Mike Spear, and his wife, Bonnie, for a visit.  Needless to say they were wonderful hosts, and we enjoyed lots of fine wine, food, and the historic sights in the area for four days.  After leaving Mike and Bonnie, we drove to Taos for two days to absorb up the atmosphere in that quant town before going home.  Here are some pictures of out visit:

Tour d'Organics, 8.14.2016

On Sunday, August 14th, seven of us biked the Tour d'Organics in Sebastopol, California.  The tour has four levels: a 100 mile route, a 60 mile route, and 30 mile route and a 16 mile route.  We took the 16 mile route and enjoyed a tour of the apple orchards and vineyards of Sonoma County.  With two rest stops and a lunch afterwards, it was a fun affair.  One of the highlights was seeing the "dump truck", an outhouse, at our second rest stop.  Below are some picture of the group and the "dump truck":

Kellen"s Camp GG & Papa Hugh, Sunriver,Oregon

This year for Kellen's week with us, we decided to go back to Sunriver, Oregon.  Kellen was born in St. Charles Medical Center in Bend, when our daughter and son-in-law lived in Bend.  We did all of the outdoor activities for summer that we remembered doing while living in Sunriver.  We went down the Deshutes river, had lunch on Mt. Batchelor, biked over 25 miles in Sunriver's bike trails, saw Bentham Falls, and white water rafted the "Big Eddy".  Georgia even got time to go to Sisters to shop for quilting materials.

Below are some pictures of the week:

Memory Lane in Central Oregon

In 1992 we purchased a vacation home in Sunriver, Oregon. After our daughter was married, she and husband Keith moved into it until they could find a house of their own. Our first grandson, Kellen, was born in Bend. Our daughter's family lived there until 2004. Thinking that our daughter and family would stay in Bend, we sold the Sunriver house and built a house in in Bend on a lot at 1376 NW Remarkable. When our daughter's family moved to Santa Clara late in 2004, we sold the Bend house and moved to Northern California. This week we returned to Sunriver with Kellen to see how things had changed. Below are pictures of our former homes in 2004 and 2016: 16 Big Sky, Sunriver, Oregon 2016 16 Big Sky, Sunriver, Oregon 2016 16 Big Sky, Sunriver, Oregon 2016 1376 NW Remarkable, Bend, Oregon 2004 1376 NW Remarkable, Bend, Oregon 2004 1376 NW Remarkable, Bend, Oregon 2004 1376 NW Remarkable, Bend, Oregon 2016 Hugh, Georgia & Kellen at 1376 NW Remarkable, Bend, Oregon 2016 View from Back Deck at 1376 NW Remarkable, Bend, Oregon

Hugh's 75th Birthday Celebration

This year I turned 75. It was quite a celebration which lasted for several days. Melissa and the grandsons came up for the weekend, Georgia presented me with a memory quilt that she made, and finally there was a surprise party with about 40 guests and the Bel Marine Yacht Club. I was truly surprised. Here are some pictures of the weekend: Hugh, Georgia, Melissa, Kellen, Cairn, and Lain with the Memory Quilt Party at the Bel Marine Yacht Club Georgia & Hugh at the Celebration Celebration Remarks

Lain's Birthday Celebration, Palm Desert

The first week in May we traveled to the desert for a get-a-way and to celebrate Lain's 5th birthday at Rancho las Palmas resort. The grandkids love the resort because it has a lazy river to float in , two water slides and a man made beach. His birthday celebration was held at a local Mexican restaurant with family. Quite a celebration. Attached are some pictures of the event: Lain Trying Out his New Beach Chair Lain and his Birthday Cupcake Lain The Family Celebrating
