May 2015 East Coast Trip, Philadelphia, Maine, & NYC

Georgia and sister-in-law, Debbie, went to Philadelphia for an art tour on May 8th. Since the girls were in Philadelphia having fun, my brothers, Dave and Jim, and I decided to go to Maine and hike in Arcadia National Park, spend a day in Boston, and then join the ladies in NYC for the weekend. In addition to seeing two plays ("It Should Have Been You" and "An American in Paris") we were able to visit the 9-11 museum, see the "Woman in Gold" painting at the "Neue" gallery, and walk the Highline on west side. It was an enjoyable week for everyone and although the weather didn't quite cooperate, we still had fun. Below are some pictures of the week:

Georgia's 50th College and Pi Beta Phi Reunion

On Wednesday, April 22, we drove to Santa Barbara to celebrate Georgia's 50th UCSB and Pi Beta Phi reunion. We stayed with Susan and John Grube, Sue was one of Georgia's sorority sisters, and Georgia had arranged for a dinner, luncheon, and a visit to the Pi Phi house. On Saturday, we went to the "Taste of UCSB" at the science green on the campus. It was a wonderful weekend and Georgia got to get together with some of her sorority that she hadn't seen in 50 years. Grandson, Lain is 4

At the end of our stay in Southern California, we celebrated grandson Lain's fourth birthday with a party, bouncy house, and of course presents. March in The Desert

We spent March 8th to April 8th in the desert enjoying the tennis, the sunshine, and the warm evenings. Between attending the Indian Wells Tennis Tournament, hosting friends and family, and relaxing, it was a full month. Ride to Olompali State Park

March came in beautiful form this year. March 1st was sunny and fairly warm for late winter. Our bike group, organized by Georgia decided to ride from Novato to Olompali State Park., a distance of about 5 and a half miles. The park has one of the original adobe Spanish dwellings left in Northern California. After the ride we all had lunch at Finnegan's Pub in Novato to cap a great ride. Wine Country Face Off

Our grandson, Kellen, is playing hockey in a league in Southern California. His team, California Wave "B", traveled to Santa Rosa on February 12th for the "Wine Country Face Off" tournament. He stayed with us, and we got to see his game on Friday, the 13, and on Saturday, the 14th. Late Saturday, Melissa, Keith, Cairn, and Lain came up and all of the family was with us. On Sunday Kellen had two games that all of the family went to except for Lain, who stayed with Georgia and me. The Wave played well, however after some close games, the Wave came out on the short end. After the tournament on President's Day, we all enjoyed the beautiful weather and went for a picnic in Belvedere. We followed the picnic by hosting a dinner for Melissa, Keith, the three grandsons, Georgia's sister and her husband,and an old family friend, Jake Skaer. Below are some pictures showing Kellen playing. The last picture is of Lain on Sunday night right after his last mouthful of spaghetti and no afternoon nap. It gave Georgia and I some quiet time to finish our dinners.

Road to California Quilt Show, Ontario, California

On January 17th, we drove to Ontario for the "Road to California Quilt Show". Since Georgia is an avid quilter, it has become an annual event for us. This year we went a little bit early so we could watch our grandsons while their parents went off for several days to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary. Entertaining the grandsons was made easy in that both Kellen and Cairn love to skate and play hockey. With Monday the 19th being a holiday, the ice rink had a free skate period all afternoon so we let them work of some of that youthful energy. In addition, Kellen and Cairn received new bike shirts so that they would be more visible when riding their bikes.
